This used to be one of my most popular deviations. Personally, I liked this picture when I first did it. But now... Bleh... So much wrong... So I got sick of people still faving that ugly thing. And I decided to show how much better it could be done.

So again, I'll list my views on what changed.

Pose: I feel the submissiveness of her kneeling is better suited for the idea behind it.

Shading: More depth, more variation, better blending. Overall, it blows the old out of the water as far as shading goes. The lighting is more consistent as well.

Color Scheme: I created a dark but rich red and earth toned background in order to make her lighter skin and blue outfit stand out. It also makes it more exotic.

Background: Well, this is rather obvious. IT EXISTS!!! There is a very real, planned background to this piece. I didn't just slap something in to fill the empty background.

Anatomy: Gosh... Where to start. The first one was before I had taken ANY anatomy classes. So it was the most basic things I knew. And those eyes... augh... why did I ever think they were cute? They're freakish and disturbing because they're so huge. I've come a long way with my ability to draw people.

Waterbending: Well, this is a very unique thing for my Avatar fanart, so I'm going to put it in a separate category. The original was my first attempt at ever drawing water digitally. And it was a masterpiece of suck. Now I've gotten better as rendering water. I'd say as far as waterbending goes, this is one of my best renditions of water yet.

That definitely a improvement! It's more solid like it has more substance and the idea behind it (kneeling and the look in her eyes) is better expressed.
