Zutara Week 2013 Day 2 Euphoria

Zuko blinked sleepily as the morning light made its way through the mosquito netting around the bed. He smiled as he saw his new bride sleeping next to him. He quietly reveled in that thought. His bride. After years of longing, convinced he would never have her, the waterbender was his wife. From today on, she was Fire Lady Katara.

She moved a little, and a strand of hair fell across her face. He gently tucked it behind her ear so as to not wake her. His hand lingered there for a moment after he was done, enjoying the fact that he could touch her like this anytime.

He remembered the night before and smiled as he noticed a few lovebites on her neck and chest. It seemed all at once too real and too impossible that he had made love to her. But the proof was there in front of him. He stroked her cheek again, before letting his hand wander along her jaw and neck.

"How long are you going to keep staring at me?" Katara asked quietly, opening her blue eyes.

Zuko blushed a little. "Uh... How long have you been awake?"

She regarded him quietly for a moment. "Since you brushed my hair back. Were you ever going to wake me up?"

He pulled her close for a kiss. "Eventually. But I was just enjoying watching you."

She smiled as she ran a hand through his hair. "I know what you mean," she said before closing the distance between them again.

This, Zuko thought, was bliss.



No warning since she's turned away/covered up and you can't see anything, and the drabble only implies it..

This started off as Zuko holding her up kinda floaty, then it turned into Zutara on trapeze (we may see this later this week...), and then into this. I used my other style because it just worked better with what I envisioned.

I added a texture to this to give it some character. Overall, I'm really happy with this.

I picture this as being a prequel to another drabble I wrote. This was the first night. And now...:

Rising with the Sun

Dawn just came creeping over the sunrise when he stirred. Zuko watched in fascination as his wife's face slowly flushed with color. First her skin flushed tan, then her hair became chocolate spilled across their pillows. Her breath whispered out of her agape mouth, her plump pink lips utterly tempting.

Her blue eyes were yet to be seen though, but Zuko just smiled knowingly. Katara was a waterbender to the core, late to rise and late to bed. So he took advantage of his firebender heritage just to watch her in the early sunlight. Hey, if he's going to rise with the sun, he might as well make it worth his while.

An hour later, Katara stirred and opened her amazingly blue eyes. She smiled at her husband.

"Good morning," she mumbled groggily. She stretched a little. "How long have you been up?"

"You ought to know. I rise…"

"With the sun," she finished with a grin. She kissed him. "You love saying that."

"Mmhmm."

Overall though, he'd have to say his favorite part of the morning was when his Fire Lady woke up and greeted him with a kiss. It was the best morning greeting.
